The run-down

Shock is a high-energy, action-packed game based on a fictional futuristic professional spectator sport known as Shockball. The sport's rules and forms of play derive from the idea that in the future, traditional professional sports will "lose touch" with spectators' and fans' desires for action and stimuli. From there, development proceeds along logical lines to provide a sport with constant action and lots of visual and aural impulses.

Using a series of high-technology artifacts, Shock is a game with mobility enhancement, energy shock blasts, teleportation, and augmented ball passing and shooting.  Sound effects, smooth and attractive in-game and thematic graphics, immersive sport arena environments, and powerful hyping-up music contribute to game-play that is undoubtedly active and engaging.

All of the items and various entities in Shock are heavily predicated on a theme of electricity and energy.  The launcher shoots energy "zaps".  The ball gives off shocks if held too long or if shot at another player.  The arenas teleport players to safety if they run low on energy reserves needed for their protective suits' functions (an analogy for "death" in a pseudo-gladiatorial environment).

In sum, Shock is an extreme-energy, stimulating experience. Development plans are to emphasise simplicity of function for all elements of Shock, but to maintain a complexity in their interaction and mastery that is rewarding and enticing to players -- to keep the game-play fun for players with any level of experience. Future development beyond initial releases is to expand these themes in all directions.
